Purpose: This animation was created to teach children about a rare condition called pulmonary hypertension, or PH. When you have PH, the blood vessels in your lungs become constricted, making the right side of the heart work harder, but there are several treatment options. In this video, we build on “Hank Gets PH” and discuss how you can fight your PH.

Purpose: Recruitment animation for Cincinnati Children’s: "conducting a research study to create a tool to better measure problematic behaviors in children with Down syndrome. We’re on a mission to create the first ever tool of behavioral concerns that is specifically made for youth with Down syndrome and created with the Down syndrome community. Caregivers of children and teens 2 to 17 years old with Down syndrome may be eligible to participate."

The laparoscopic Vecchietti is a surgery that lengthens the vaginal canal for individuals born with underdevelopment of the vaginal canal (vaginal or mullerian agenesis, also known as MRKH). MRKH affects 1 in 5,000 females. As a result of changes during development before birth, individuals with MRKH have a shortened vaginal canal and underdeveloped uterus. The majority of individuals with MRKH can lengthen the vaginal canal through dilation. If unsuccessful, there are a number of surgical procedures available to lengthen the vaginal canal. The laparoscopic Vecchietti is one type of vaginal lengthening procedure (vaginoplasty) offered by Cincinnati Children’s to treat vaginal agenesis.

Purpose: This video provides information for patients and families on “what to expect” after a double stage laryngotracheoplasty. A double stage laryngotracheoplasty (dsLTP) is a reconstructive surgery performed by an ENT surgeon in which the airway is made larger by placing a graft in the narrow part of the airway. A stent (a cylindrical tube) is placed in the airway, above the patient’s trach tube, to hold the graft(s) in place while it heals. After surgery, the patient will recover in the hospital where the focus of care is: respiratory status, pain management, secretion management, and feeding.

Understanding why following instructions on NPO (no eating or drinking) is important for the day of surgery. When a patient is having surgery and/or undergoing anesthesia, it is important to follow the instructions given to you by the pre-op nurse for the day of surgery. In this video, we discuss why it is important to follow the instructions, how you will know when your child should stop eating and drinking, suggestions to prevent your child from finding food, and ways to keep your child busy while they cannot eat.

This video explains the basic types of dialysis (peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis) that could be offered to a newborn baby with kidney failure. Dialysis is a treatment that can be provided to people of all ages whose kidneys don't work. Dialysis helps clean the blood of wastes as well as remove excess body water (if necessary). In a pregnancy complicated by either low or no amniotic fluid due to an abnormality of the kidney(s) and/or bladder, starting dialysis soon after birth may be an option if the baby is considered a dialysis candidate.
